What are door vents and what are they used for?
Door vents (or grilles) are designed to improve air circulation by allowing air to flow through a door, even when it's closed. They are particularly helpful in rooms without windows or other direct ventilation options. They can help prevent mustiness, balance air pressure improve air quality and alleviate hot or cold spots.
How do I install a door grille?
This can be done by a competent DIYer or easily by a carpenter. Some installations can be made with a simple cutout. In other situations a frame constructed in the door around the cut-out might be required. If in doubt, consult the manufacturer (or reseller) of the door.
What are the standard sizes of door grille?
A 600mm wide cutout (with larger face of approx. 635mm) is the most common width. The size of the door grilled is then determined by the depth (height) of the grille
What are door grilles constructed from?
Most are aluminium. Some plastic or wood door grilles still are available but aluminium is generally considered more attractive and durable.
Are different colours of door grille available?
Most door grilles are supplied in grey coloured anodised aluminium. These can be easily sprayed or powder coated to a desired colour.
